Social Façade
My senior art thesis, Social Façade, was created to explore how we portray ourselves on social media. I created each of the 12 pieces by combining 3-5 sourced images per piece in Photoshop, and then used Adobe Aero to make the interactive elements for each. Read my thesis statement below and then explore each of the 12 pieces!
Social media is one of the most powerful forces in the world today, where we can share anything with the click of a button. My thesis explores how women feel they must portray themselves in a certain way on social media. We often feel as though we can only share our best side online, where we always look perfect and posed without a single blemish in frame. This creates the idea that we cannot show our full selves online, but only the positive aspects of our lives.
I bring these pieces to life through the use of augmented reality (AR) to further push the idea of how we see each other online through our phones. Viewers can use their own smartphone cameras to scan the QR codes on each piece and witness them move.
